With 24 colourful book benches decorating streets all over Manchester, there’s a good chance you will have spotted a few already.
The benches are the brainchild of Read Manchester, a campaign from Manchester City Council and the National Literacy Trust to promote reading and boost literacy levels throughout the city.
The campaign calls on schools, community groups, libraries, businesses and residents to get involved and encourage reading in all Manchester communities, to transform the lives of young people.
The BookBench Project is part of a year-long programme of Read Manchester activities to spread the joy of reading.
Until 10 September 2017 benches can be seen at the National Football Museum, HOME, Manchester Central Library, People’s History Museum, Royal Exchange Theatre, Oxford Road and beyond into communities.
