Manchester Pride prepares for a busy weekend

25-28 August 2017

Manchester’s annual LGBT celebration is taking place this upcoming Bank Holiday weekend with a bumper music festival and parade.

Headliners include Clean Bandit, Faithless (DJ set), former Spice Girl Melanie C, Pixie Lott and Example.

The theme for the weekend is ‘Class of 2017’ bringing a graduation feel to the parade, which takes place on Saturday. The theme centres on the crucial role education can play in the fight to end the inequalities and injustices still faced by LGBT people around the world.

The culmination of The Manchester Pride Festival is The Vigil in which Sackville Gardens is turned into a sea of flickering candles as Manchester takes a minute to remember those we’ve lost to the HIV virus and join together to combat the epidemic worldwide.

Manchester Pride is a registered charity that campaigns for equality and challenges discrimination; creates opportunity for engagement and participation and celebrates lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) life.

Last year the Pride festival raised a total of £149,000 for initiatives and charities contributing to this cause.
