A public consultation on the new plans for the nearby Grade II-listed Great Northern Warehouse starts today, Thursday 10 August.
The ambitious new designs include a new street running parallel to Deansgate full of independent bars, cafés and shops, a highline on top of the former railway lines and filling in the amphitheatre to create new public gardens. Public space across the entire site would increase by 27% to create what is being described as a “new urban oasis”.
Built by Great Northern Railway between 1896 and 1899, the building is currently predominantly used as a multi-storey car park. Under the plans, the warehouse will be converted into 100 apartments.
The proposals are on show at Great Northern Warehouse on Thursday 10 August and again on Thursday 24 August (3pm-8pm) - access via the entrance next to Almost Famous.
