Shirley Baker: Airport ’87
05 Oct 2017 — 06 Jan 2018
Manchester Central Library
A new exhibition at Manchester Central Library will reveal the golden age of travel as it unpicks the fashion, check-ins and departure lounges of Manchester Airport - formerly Ringway.
The exhibition marks exactly 30 years since the photos were taken, as the airport embarks on its £1bn investment programme to transform the visitor experience for another generation.
Visitors will be taken back to the security checks, smoke-filled arcade halls and duty-free shopping offers of the day in this fascinating look at a more relaxed era of travel.
The poignant look back at the passenger experience at Manchester Airport was captured by the camera of iconic photographer Shirley Baker.
You can find the free exhibition on the First Floor Exhibition Hall of Manchester Central Library.
