New Royal Exchange play shines light on welfare-poverty

27 September – 14 October 2017
Royal Exchange Theatre

Graeae Theatre Company and the Royal Exchange present COSMIC SCALLIES; an incisive two-hander on class, friendship and welfare-poverty from the celebrated director Amit Sharma whose show THE SOLID LIFE OF SUGAR WATER was a 2015 Edinburgh Fringe Festival hit.

Set in ‘Skem’, a working-class north-west town brimming with underinvestment, Cosmic Scallies is a timely and original debut from poet, stand-up comedian and writer Jackie Hagan and is informed by her first-hand knowledge of life as a disabled person growing up in the forgotten-town of Skelmersdale, Lancashire.

Directed by new Associate Artistic Director Amit Sharma, this is a fresh new show from award-winning writer, comedian and Write to Play graduate Jackie Hagan. COSMIC SCALLIES is a funny, angry, touching play about class, welfare, and the importance of friendship in times of adversity.
