New BBC documentary features Greater Manchester Police

'The Detectives’ is back with a new four part documentary featuring officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Major Incident Team and will appear on screens this week.

Filmed over two years, the four-part series The Detectives follows officers in GMP’s Major Incident Team, closely following the harrowing work they undertake every day. The first episode will air at 9pm this Wednesday (20 September 2017) on BBC2, with the others being shown at the same time for the following three Wednesdays.

The series follows the MIT as they investigate four murder cases across Greater Manchester.

The series comes after BAFTA-nominated series one of The Detectives, based in GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit.

Documentary makers were granted unprecedented access to the MIT and viewers will be able to see murder investigations progress from start to finish and the profound impact murders have on families.

Detective Superintendent Jon Chadwick from GMP’s Major Incident Team said: “Murder is the most heinous of crimes. There is never a reason why one human being should take the life of another and for the families and friends of victims the consequences are so final.

“I hope the programme shows the dedication and effort that the teams put into, not just bringing the perpetrators to justice but supporting those that they leave behind.

“Our Family Liaison Officers do an extraordinary job in providing care and information to victim’s families and are a vital part of any homicide investigation.”
