Manchester’s ‘give differently’ charity raises £100,000

The Big Change fund is pioneering an alternative approach to public donations for homeless people.

Conventional street donations of loose change don’t help people in the long-term. Instead, Big Change Manchester supports individuals who are homeless by paying for practical items they need - a deposit for a home, a training course, clothes for a job interview, furnishing for a new flat, or a bus ticket to a training course.

Big Change pools people’s donations to provide a more responsive service. A total of £112,000 has been raised since its launch in 2016, with £62,000 distributed and 418 individuals helped since.

To celebrate the milestone and help reach £200,000 in donations, Manchester creative agency Dinosaur has produced a short film to highlight the ways to support Big Change. The video is voiced by Elbow front man Guy Garvey.
